What educators are saying

The way my schedule works sometimes results in a missed art class. This is a good and quick resource for students to do.
Fantastic! Used this in conjunction with a field trip to see the Van Gogh for All exhibit at our local art museum.

Description

PLEASE NOTE: This is an ART project, NOT a coloring book style template!! Please read this description carefully before purchasing!

Collaborative art projects are popular at school fundraiser auctions everywhere. My "Masterpiece Mosaics" lesson will help you create a successful class auction project that will drive parents into bidding wars!

PLEASE NOTE: This is an ART project. It does NOT contain a printable template for coloring!!

A "Masterpiece Mosaic" is a reproduction of a famous artwork, where each participant re-creates one small section of a painting. This is NOT a ready-to-go template that students just color in. Rather, this is an actual art-learning experience where students practice looking carefully at shapes, colors, and proportions in order to duplicate a small section of a fine art poster, using oil pastels on a separate piece of card stock. These pieces are then assembled together and mounted onto foam core board for hanging.

"Masterpiece Mosaics" are inexpensive to produce, fun to make, and totally irresistible!

This is NOT a ready-to-go template that students just color in. It requires quite a bit of prep, but the results are worth it! You will need to purchase a poster of the famous artwork you want to reproduce and then cut it into the appropriate number of pieces for your students to each have one piece. Each student will use their observation skills to copy their section onto a piece of card stock (like a blank index card). The teacher then glues the pieces onto "foam core board" and covers the whole thing with a clear sealer. Two options for framing are presented, to accommodate different budgets.

In this 19-page pdf booklet, I'll walk you through the steps for creating your own "Masterpiece Mosaic". You'll learn which products to use for best results and I'll share my tips for success from start to finish. Students will develop their observation and color matching skills as they work together to create a "copy" of a famous masterpiece. The result will be totally charming and completely unique! You'll have a collaborative project that students will be proud of and parents will want to own! A gallery of student mosaics from grades K - 8 will inspire you to make a "Masterpiece Mosaic" with your own students!

PLEASE NOTE: This is an ART project, NOT a coloring book style template!!
